Bairnsdale and surrounding districts were on a moderate flood alert on Monday following significant rainfall in the upper catchments of the Mitchell and Wonnangatta Rivers.
The Mitchell River peaked at 6.4 metres early on Monday afternoon following the weekend’s rainfall higher in the catchments over the weekend. Many other areas of the state are in flood.
East Gippsland missed the rainfall event, which in some areas totalled well over 150mm, but was rather bathed in sunshine for most of Monday before a light shower of rain Monday evening.
